Spring (April-June) brings tulip blooms and lush valleys, and is genuinely the most in-demand window, which shows up in hotel and houseboat pricing. Summer (July-September) is warmer and busier still. Autumn (October-November) sees the Chinar trees turn gold and crowds thin out considerably, often the best value window for a similar experience. Winter (December-February) brings snow and Gulmarg skiing, but also the highest cold-weather premium and the real chance of road closures around Sonmarg after heavy snowfall.

Costs couples commonly miss
- Pony rides at Gulmarg and Pahalgam are priced informally, not on a fixed public tariff: agree the rate and exact route before you start, not after.
- Houseboat categories vary a lot in quality for similar listed prices: always check recent photos and reviews of the specific boat, not just the general Dal Lake houseboat listing.
- Gulmarg Gondola tickets, especially for the second stage to around 3,950m, are a separate cost from your hotel or package, and queues on winter weekends can be long enough that early booking matters.
- A day added for Sonmarg is a genuinely worthwhile detour, but it adds real drive time on top of its cost: worth deciding deliberately rather than defaulting to "see everything."

What actually makes it feel like a honeymoon, not just a valley tour
Kashmir's honeymoon reputation rests on a small number of genuinely distinctive settings, not on doing more. At least one night on a Dal Lake houseboat, paired with an early-morning shikara ride past the floating vegetable market, is the experience most couples remember most, and it's worth prioritising over a packed sightseeing schedule.
The Mughal Gardens in Srinagar (Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh and Chashme Shahi) are an easy, unhurried half-day, best visited in the cooler morning hours. Beyond Srinagar, choosing between Gulmarg's more touristy energy and Pahalgam's quieter pine-forest setting is a genuine pace decision, not just a sightseeing checklist item, and it's one of the things worth deciding deliberately rather than defaulting to "both."
